I am a diagnostic and interventional radiology resident in my 3rd year of residency(R2). This happened when I had just started my 2nd year of radiology residency, and I was stressed. While I was on call 2nd year, 3rd year is when “real call” starts. When you actually start to be responsible, it’s when 2nd years field studies to you for evaluation, when you’re called for procedures, theoretically under the watch of a fellow or attending, but when it’s night call that’s a lot more iffy. It only takes a few attendings chewing you out for having them stand behind you while you do a procedure normally before they call you competent and are expected to do it sans attending. It’s when you actually start to feel like a real radiologist a bit. And the responsibilities match it.
