I’m a big fan of house parties but organising them myself always feels like a terrible idea – I’ve never shaken the fear of no one showing up or everyone having a terrible time. Luckily for me I’ve got lots of friends who’re much more confident in their event planning skills. An old housemate of mine was a particularly good example – she loved throwing parties and was always planning something bigger and better than the last one. Not only did I get to benefit from her taking care of planning and invitations, but a lot of those invitations seemed to go to some very beautiful women. It was always going to work out well. After a few fairly successful house parties she decided we were going to have a 20’s themed cocktail party. Mandatory dressing up and themed drinks for everyone!
The set up was pretty easy – I grabbed my most appropriately cut suit, figured out how to get a bowtie on properly and spammed out some invitations on facebook. My housemate on the other hand went fantastically overboard. She worked in some advertising/media/production type role that never made any sense to me but it meant she could get her hands on all sorts of props and things to make our place look a lot fancier than it was. She and her best friends were all set to go early so I made a round of old fashioneds, we put the music on and started chatting away while people tricked in.
