This happened 8 years ago when I was 21. I was home for the summer from the good old state college after my sophomore year. And bored. The suburban hometown was dull, hot, and female-less. So unlike my years hitting the books and the bars at university. So I hoped onto Craigslist. Yes that was a thing. The personals section was not like a booming hookup spot but definitely somewhere to check out. Long before the days of Tinder, Bumble, OKC, etc.

A girl’s post intrigued me. No picture. But it read something like “Hey I’m Mariana. A Syrian, curvy 19F home from college and looking to meet a cool guy and hang out with this summer.
