Me and Aurora have been close friends since middle school, she was Italian but her parents moved to the US when she was only a few years old. We were best friends but lost contact going to different colleges, and, because she wasn’t on Instagram or any social network and barely used a phone or a computer it was difficult to stay in touch but we kept calling each other once every two months so I wasn’t surprised when she called me: she was supposed to tell me when to go and how to dress up for her birthday party the next day. What did surprise me was what she told: her boyfriend broke up with her a couple hours before so she didn’t feel in the mood for a party. I was shocked: they always seemed the perfect couple!
I was also a bit disappointed, this party was the occasion of seeing each other in person after almost ten years.
I must admit that not being able to meet her was what depressed me the most: back in high school I had a big crush on her and apparently time hadn’t changed that.
I decided to shoot my shot and go to her regardless of the party being cancelled; besides I had already booked a room in an hotel and the suitcase was ready, I just had to pack her gift.
The next morning I woke up early and got in the car, ready for 8 hours of driving.
