The dorms at UT Austin had just gotten wired with ethernet to each room. This was about Fall of 1997. I was in a smaller “dudes only” dorm with a single room (Prather Hall), somewhere right in the center of that 1920’s era building, window overlooking northward onto 21st street and Moore Hill, basically under the stadium.
College girls every where else of course, as you can imagine. Truly the greatest year of my life. Picture an environment pre-cursing the yoga pant. Instead it features the “fuck me” pants… tight black pants, tastefully cut to accentuate them butts. Butts, accentuated unlike the male half of the race had ever seen before. The 90’s somehow were a more tasteful time.
I put up a flier for my “hook up your computer to the internet” service in the huge nearby dorm (Jester). One girl contacted me to install an ethernet card. I guess this all must have happened via regular phone, I don’t how else. I vaguely remember paying a separate bill for phone service, worried about the cost of long distance calls to my end-of-high-school girlfriend several states away.
