[M/F] A night at the hostel turned villa in Thailand

This happened about 3 years ago. Sorry for the terrible writing; English isn't my first language…

My best friend Bea and I had both opted to enroll into a Masters program so we planned a trip to South East Asia both to celebrate finishing our bachelor and recharge before starting all over again in September. We had about 4 months of traveling planned, and we were both excited about the prospect of leaving our native Netherlands for a few months. Neither of us had ever been to Asia before, and we were both looking forward to making the most of our time in the sun.

Anyway, fast-forward a few days, we both took a boat to a place called Ko Samui in Thailand and checked into a pretty cool hostel set somewhere in the jungle, with only a few other fenced villas nearby. It even had a pool whose water was pristine, a luxury we didn't encounter again in our trip! Unfortunately, it seemed like we were the only people there as we didn't see anyone else but the owner during our time there. We rented a bike and toured the island for the afternoon and came back around 8pm; still nobody in sight. The owner had set up an emergency phone in case anything happens and had both given us keys to the front door. The place was basically our private villa at the ridiculous cost of $25 each. We did what anyone else would have done and promptly decided to start making our vodka-and-whatever-juice-we-bought-at-the-7/11 cocktails by the pool. We drank a bit, chatted and put some music on our iPhones before both changing into our bikinis and jump into the pool.
