Mayu, first daughter of Tetsuro—the famed Silent Swordsman—awoke to find her naked body splayed out across a straw bed.
She startled and gasped, reaching blindly around for clothing, a rag, a blanket—anything to cover herself with.
When her frantic hands returned nothing of use, she resorted to covering herself up rather poorly using her arms.
Thankfully, she seemed to be alone. Alone in a place she did not recognize.
It was a small room, cold and dark, with only one source of warmth. A small fire blazed away in a metal brazier at the center of the room. It was a makeshift hearth, surrounded by several wooden buckets filled with various unidentifiable grains and granules.
Looking upward, Mayu noted that the wooden ceiling was crumbling. The faint light of the stars leaked through cracked timber boards, but none of the rays reached her sitting on the straw bed. That was for the best, she decided, as it meant the amethyst moon was unlikely to reach her here.
As though struck with a sudden revelation, Mayu realized she must be inside the old digger’s hut.
