“We’re going to go get some food, do you want me to grab you anything?” I ask Mariah once I found her inside. She was still standing around the beer pong table, now talking to some guy in a backwards Cubs hat. “No I’m good! I’ll see you later!” She gave me a little wink and looked towards the guy she was talking to. Claire was in the kitchen playing some drinking game I wasn’t familiar with and looked like she was also enjoying herself. Emma said bye to her and we left the party.
We started walking down the dark street next to each other, neither of us saying anything, just trading flirty looks back and forth. I couldn’t hold back the smile that was plastered across my face. I really wanted to say something cool or to make her laugh, but I was so nervous my words escaped me. Emma walked closer to me and rubbed the back of her hand against mine. My pinky finger reached out to touch her hand and she clumsily grabbed my hand and held it as we continued walking.
