Context: This story takes place in July of 2020, my girlfriend and I decided that we wanted to wake up one morning and take her tandem kayak out for a sunrise kayak. The lake we’d go to is an abandoned quarry that has since been turned into a man-made lake. People fish, kayak, and picnic around the park. The lake is large (a couple of miles around) but you won’t find anything bigger than a small fishing boat there. There is a path that goes around the lake but it is surrounded by trees so you can’t see walkers very easily and walkers can see the lake unless they go to specific picnic spots around the lake. The lake is mostly open but you will find little islands throughout the middle of it that are great for boats to tie up to and get shade.
My girlfriend and I woke up around 4:30 am that morning and got our swimsuits on, I put on my swim trunks and a t-shirt while she put on black bikini bottoms and a red bikini top. We paddled around the empty lake to the other side where the boat launch was no longer visible.
