My best friend set me up with her roommate but had to finish the job herself — Lantana Part 2 [MFF] [long]

Last Friday I posted about how I lost my virginity with Lantana, my best friend from high school. We hooked up when she got a little drunk after dumping a cheating boyfriend. Some readers asked if I ever got together with her again, so I thought I’d share a story from the following summer . . .

I was definitely hoping that my first time with Lantana would become a steady relationship, but that just wasn’t practical. We lived about four hours away from each other, and she wasn’t sure we were a good fit as serious romantic partners. Having been such close friends growing up, she was concerned that a break-up might make things too awkward to continue the platonic side of things. That sounded like an excuse girls use to mean they’re not attracted to a guy, but the good news was Lantana’s concept of the “friend zone” was different than most. I don’t know if she was disillusioned from having been cheated on or if she was just growing more adventurous, but she made it clear she still wanted to be friends with benefits. Although I wanted something deeper, I wasn’t about to turn that option down. So we got into each other a few times over the breaks (fall, Christmas, spring).

Losing my virginity with my best friend [MF]

My best friend in high school was a girl named Lantana (like the flower). The guys in my senior class called her “Hotlanta” (like the nickname for the city of Atlanta) because she’s really sexy, and because she planned to go to Georgia Tech after she graduated. Lantana played almost all the sports at school and has always kept a tight, athletic figure and a deep tan. She has soft, blonde hair and blue-gray eyes. Gorgeous. Unfortunately, I never hooked up with her in high school. The timing was never right: one of us had a steady partner every time the other was free, and neither of us was really the cheating kind. I suspect she knew I had a crush on her no matter who I was dating, but she never brought it up.
