I wrote up this account a few months back for a tumblr post, but I’ve been lurking here for a while and thought it might be enjoyed here.
My wife and I (both 30 yrs old) were both raised in the LDS (Mormon) church, and we were strong believers, following all the rules. Making out was the only allowed sexual activity before marriage, so that’s all we ever did (I never so much as fondled her tits, or saw them in all their naked splendor) Within the last year we’ve left the church after a long struggle of searching for truth and the devastating loss of our faith, feeling betrayed by being told half-truths all our lives, and finding out some things had been straight up covered-up. It was a slow process of leaving church culture and exploring the forbidden. It started with brunch on Sundays and buying sexy underwear. Despite no longer believing, it still took us a while to venture into some of the bigger no-nos, like drinking or bringing porn into the bedroom. Religious dogma is a bitch.
