When she pressed the keyboard key – a final dot – she felt both relief and anticipation. Relief, because finishing typing up this document marked the end of a long three week job. Anticipation because she knew what she was going to do, now that she was free.
She had given so much of her time on this last job that she barely had time for herself. While at first it was no problem to forget herself in the work, during the final days, she felt herself wanting to relieve stress more and more. It was always like that in her line of work: jobs required so much of her time and attention, but she had ample time to make up for it between two gigs.
She closed her writing app and opened up her emails. She quickly sent her work with a short explanation and signed “Libellule”. Libellule is French for dragonfly. It was the nickname she chose, in order to remain anonymous, a must in her line of work: private investigator. She chose this nickname because she loved the idea of being a fly on the wall, as well as the common wisdom that dragonflies were only found in less polluted area, something she hoped her work helped preserve, whether it be litteral pollution or figuratively speaking when she contributed to bringing down bad guys. She chose the French version of the word, because, well, she found it more sexy, and sexy is always something to go for. This done, she closed everything on her laptop. She was free!
