…At that moment, the server brought two glasses of cold white wine, and a cheese and fruit plate. Julia quickly laid a napkin over her lap. She looked guilty and Peter laughed, breaking the tension between them. He scooted his chair closer to her and they began to nibble on the cheese plate, chatting quietly about everything and nothing. They sipped from their glasses. Once again, they were at ease with each other. Both just stared at each other and grinned. He fed her a juicy strawberry and she kept her eyes on him as she wrapped her lips around it and sucked before biting into the fruit.
Their desire was clear. But it was also clear that both derived a sense of calm and comfort from the other. Together, they were magnetic. Other diners stopped and stared. Those who passed by turned their heads to catch another glimpse. Peter and Julia were oblivious. They leaned closer together, feeding each other fruit and bits of cheese. They talked and sometimes they just stared at one another. Neither one of them could think of anywhere they’d rather be.
