Emily and I had a lot of classes together in high school and were always pretty good ‘school’ friends, i.e. we didn’t really hang outside of school, but would get lunch together, chat in the hallway, etc. I had a sense that she had a bit of a crush on me, but for whatever reason it never amounted to anything. After high school we went to different colleges and not surprisingly, didn’t keep in touch.
Fast forward to about a year after college and I get a random facebook message from Emily. In as many words: “Hey I just moved back to town. I ran into so and so and thought of you and how I had a crush on you in high school. I know that’s random but hopefully it brings a smile to your face. Hope your doing well”. At this point I was living across the country, but just so happened to be coming back to visit the following week. I replied: “Hey good to hear from you! I had a crush on you too, but unfortunately my shy high school self just never did anything about it. I’m actually heading back to visit next week, let’s grab a beer and catch up!”
