Back in 2015 in my early thirties a group of friends of mine put together a skiing trip to New Zealand. We organised to have a big house together near the mountains in Queenstown. 2 couples, another solo male and myself. Within about two days of the initial planning I found out that a longtime close and intimate friend of mine, Alexa, would be back in Australia for a few months at the same time. I quickly ran her inclusion past the main organiser of the holiday and with his approval invited her to join us. Happy days. I was excited and looking forward to the trip.
In the months leading up to our adventure and before Alexa arrived in Australia, I started seeing a Thai lady Aee. It the start of a hot and tempestuous relationship. Still in the early stages, Alexa arrived and immediately took a massive disliking to Aee. Alexa had wanted us to be together but I wasn’t willing to split things off with Aee so soon into starting to go out with her. Aee was also very controlling with me and frequently had her hand out for my money. Alexa didn’t like seeing me being used and offered several times to pull out of the trip so I could take Aee instead. I had no intention of taking Aee. I knew I’d end up paying for the entire trip for her. Alexa would in contrast carry her weight financially and she had been a part of my friendship circle for a long time already.
