Andy and Lane: Part 1 [MF]

Lane’s phone vibrated on the desk next to her. She wanted to look but it wasn’t technically her break yet and she had to get this report out. She eyed the phone, finishing up a patient file on her computer at the same time.

*Andy.*

Ugh… it was only 10 am and she wasn’t off until 12:30 at the earliest. She’d sent him a playful text when she got was on her early break and he’d responded in stride, hinting exactly at the things he knew would distract her for the rest of the morning. Her break had gone by way too fast as they’d gone back and forth about how this and that would happen with this and that toy once she was set free and off work. But she had to concentrate and finish this week well. Her department had been overrun with requests for better reports from management since Monday but they had put their heads down, determined to beat expectations and finish more than what had been planned. But it had been a long week and they all needed a good weekend to clear their heads and blow off some steam. Lane’s coworkers had tried to rope her in for a Friday night outing but she knew she only wanted one thing and that was to disconnect from work a bit and reconnect with Andy before diving back into work. They lived together and so were in each other’s arms every night, but nothing beat a weekend set aside just for them. She’d tell the other girls she could get a late Sunday afternoon drink after she’d had her Friday night and Saturday with Andy…

Watering Plants: Part 1

Kylie stepped out onto her balcony and into the warm morning sun. She loved the end of spring, the rain had mostly moved on, and the trees and vegetation were flourishing everywhere, filling the view from her apartment with lush vibrant colors. She loved being so high up and felt lucky to have found this tenth floor apartment near the river park where she had all the conveniences of living downtown but a view that rivaled many places outside of town. Her building formed an L which blocked most of the wind and warmed her apartment when the sun hit the opposite walls. It was a little less private as some of her neighbors could see her balcony, but they were all chill and she never felt like anyone was spying on her and she often had little conversations with them across the space if they ended up outside at the same time. The sun was warm, but the late spring, morning air was still a bit cool at this hour so she had thrown on a loose wide-shouldered shirt over her fitted tank top. Tall, grey, wool socks came up almost to her knees to keep her tan legs a bit warmer as her little cotton shorts weren’t helping much…

The Run

A quick, frantic rustle in the dry leaves of the underbrush next to the trail startled Claire as she jogged down the path leading to the riverside park. She picked up her pace, thinking she’d probably frightened whatever little animal or bird was venturing out for an evening scavenge more than she had been. She checked her watch and her pace was on par as she came out of the summer turning to fall foliage and onto the riverside, 45 min to go. There were trails all over this valley, some high, rough, and rarely visited, high up on the hill, and others packed smooth and wide, crowded with families and casual walkers along the river. Claire liked both and usually tried to find a mixed route, quiet seclusion in the forest where she could push herself, and some moments to catch her breath on the more crowded paths where she’d spring past walkers and catch the eye of fellow runners.

The Run (updated)

After some nice feedback from my first post a while back I’ve done some corrections and expanded certain parts of the following stories. I think it’s better than the first time around for sure. Let me know what you think! =)
