I ask this because so many times when someone brings up favorite books, you see The Story of O and The Beauty Trilogy (1980’s, I think, maybe earlier). But there are no repeats that I can think of for books from the last two decades. Is it because there are way so many more books in the erotica genre? I must say I can’t think of any that meet those earlier standards.

I’ve seen frequent mentions of The Story of O and The Beauty Trilogy, and have mentioned them myself. But I had completely forgotten Lady Chatterley. I last read it decades ago when it was un-banned. Today I saw an excerpt from it, and it’s terrific. I’m going to read it again.
