It had been 2 months since we had broken up. It came sharply and suddenly. One day we were a happy couple going through the occasional tough week, and the next it was over. She changed into a completely different person and did not even want to talk to me.
I was not without blame however. I was in a bit of a rut at work and it had spilled over into other aspects of my life. Of course I was too stubborn to realise this it the time; it is amazing what a couple of introspective weeks can do to your self awareness.
After several attempts to salvage things, i had just about given up. Until she texted, suggesting I come around to share a bottle of wine we had been saving. I didn’t know what to make of the offer. She’d rebuffed all previous attempts I had made to share a drink or a meal to talk.
I knew it was over, a friend had told me she had been sleeping with the local barista. A known man about town, this guy was someone both likeable and hatable at the same time. I suspected that the drink was so that she could get some closure and she planned to get a few things off her chest.
