A few years ago, if you ever asked me what my future career would be, the last thing I would have said would be a porn producer. It all started when I was working for this modeling company, as an office person. I was just trying to make rent and pay my bills. That’s when I met this guy, who I’ll call Tony. Tony was in the porn business and he needed some help with his paperwork and clerical stuff. Nothing in front of the camera, all behind the scenes stuff. It paid cash, was flexible hours, and I needed the money. ​So I started working with him, and that’s how I got into the industry.

Most of my tasks were all administrative. Paperwork, billing, scheduling, lunch etc… I’m very organized and attentive, so all this came naturally for me. After a while, Tony started giving me more responsibilities, like booking, talent recruiting, screening, vendors. With that, he increased my pay, and I was finally able to get my own apt, without roommates. I eventually left my other job. I’m pretty good at what I do, and it helps to have a female on staff. I didn’t care about any of the content we made, it is what is is. We’re all consenting adults, all here doing a job. It’s actually a really chill and cool place to work.

Tony was married and he was going through some problems with his marriage. Eventually, they had to split and Tony lost interest in running this business (he had other businesses coming in). So he approached me, asked if I wanted to take over the business. I think he just wanted out and just start his life over. So I scraped together whatever money I could get, and bought him out, at this fire sale discount.

The scenes that we shoot – they are very straight forward and amateur. That’s the style that we go for. There’s not a high production value, elaborate plot or location. If you’ve seen scenes like “Girls Do Porn” then that’s the style. Quick, easy setup. Fast turnaround time. If you factor in all the expenses we have: talent, hair and make up artists, location if needed, video, editing, etc… we make a modest amount on each video. Not filthy rich, but I’m able to pay back the loans I took out, and still pay my rent.

The real money is when a legit model wants to shoot a discreet scene. When I was still working at the agency, and one of the agency models approached me. She was looking to make some extra money (cash) and wanted to see what I could help with. That eventually morphed into this side business, where we would book this agency model and “shoot” a scene with a male amateur. Usually the guy is just some normal average joe, looking to blow off some steam and has the money to do so. “Shoot” means that the camera equipment is there, but it’s not recording anything or even plugged in. So the guise is that we’re there shooting an adult video, but really we’re not. Nothing ever gets published. For my trouble, I keep 20% of the “booking fee” from the male amateur. Again, all consenting adults here. There has never been a problem here.

I’d like to say that I could do this the rest of my life. But it’s a lot of work, and eventually I’d like to move onto something more stable. My family and friends don’t know what I truly do, I just tell them that I work in the entertainment industry as a booker.
