*This isn’t really a “sexy” post per-say, but rather I wanted to document all the wholesome experiences I’ve had with GoneWild. With that said, sorry if that’s not the content you were looking for lol.*
I have definitely spent an embarrassing amount of time browsing r/gonewild these past few years as a lurker, but I think I’m in good company here. For all the years of lurking in college and in my post-college life (though not as frequently), I’ve come to realize that this one subreddit was responsible for some really amazing things in my life:
1. I lost my virginity to someone who posted on the subreddit
2. A poster let me visit her abroad and hosted me for a few days
3. Some of my best friends are people I’ve met from the subreddit
I really am grateful for the friends I’ve made along the way (many of them don’t post anymore), and it’s nice to hear from them once in a while if we lose touch since everyone is all over the world. Hell, one of them invited me to her wedding (pending if it actually happens): “If I’ll ever get married and we will still be talking, I invite you to my wedding bitch” [she’s Polish].
I’m hoping to one day meet them all thanks to my job as an airline employee. In the mean time, I usually keep up with them either through social media or by sending mail (hand-written letter and postcards). I actually recently met up with my friend who let me stay with her when I was visiting some college friends in Germany. We both still need to get our back-story together, but we both found it funny how my two worlds collided in that moment in time.
Maybe I’ll get lucky one of these days and wind up messaging someone who’s single in Chicago because being touch-starved in a city of 3.5 million people is awful.
