Characters having traits that portray real life problems – therapeutic or harmful?

ACTUAL QUESTION – NOT A STORY!

I realized anytime I tried writing erotica, the main character is pretty rejective. Throughout my life I’ve always had issues with rejection. Mainly with having crushes for the wrong people – who made fun of me. At this point I fear my friends could turn away from me any moment. It’s just something that’s always there. Not a major issue, but present.

Now I just thought of writing another erotica, and the first scenario is the female character asking the male character on a date and getting rejected, but the guy making a compromise and they start fwb which is kind of abusive. All my erotica looks like it.

But it also shows loss of control. And I heard that people who have a need to be in control of everything, will have a great relief if they give up their control in bed.

So what do you guys think? Is writing this kind of erotica something that can be therapeutic, or should I rather stop since it’s harmful?

  1. I think you are over thinking it. Some will enjoy your writing voice and some will find it off putting. I think you can write almost anything so long as you show growth or consequences for actions.

    E. G. Danny Trejo is famous for only playing despicable badguys if they get killed / their comeuppance in the end.
