My Dark Hero: Chapter Two – [Romantic/Erotica/Fantasy]

**Chapter Two**

**Kincaid**

As it turned out, Amy’s brother owed several bad people a lot of money. But there was one, in particular, he shouldn’t have been messing with – a chunky fuck called Chamberlin. I didn’t care for Daniel’s well-being, or what Chamberlin would eventually do to him.

But she got to me.

She fucking got to me, and the idea of her paying his debt the same way she paid me didn’t go down well. Just the thought of another man touching her made me blind with rage, be it sexual or violently.

Truth be told, it wasn’t the way I wanted it to happen. If I had a choice in the matter she would’ve experienced several orgasms during the course of a very long night, and I would’ve paid more attention to the way I touched her.

But I’m a business man. It was my cold approach to everything that kept me alive so long. My uncle had a wife and a child, and as much as he loved them, they were his downfall. The same goes for my parents. I had no choice but to be inconsiderate, regardless of the way she affected my emotions.

So, I was just going to make sure she’s safe until I can get her out of my head. That meant taking the heat off her brother, and forgetting they both exist.

“Why are we doing this again?” Frank asked as our limo parked outside the Gold Digger’s Casino.

Frank was my right-hand man – a selfish bastard who only cared about money and himself, hence the reason I employed his services. He was quick on his feet, he knew how to handle his weapon and extort information when I needed it, and he was loyal to the rich and powerful cause.

“Because I’m bored.” I replied flatly.

I didn’t need to explain my actions to him, but even if I did, I couldn’t tell him I was infatuated.

“We’re poking a different type of bear thanks to your boredom, you know that right? There’s a reason why Chamberlin is making you come all this way.”

“I’m not here to poke him, Frank. I’m just going to settle a debt and leave. If he wants to see something that isn’t there it’s his problem.”

Frank didn’t appreciate the fact that I kept him out of the loop, especially when it influenced our healthy business system.

“Is there something he should be seeing?” He tried breaking me a last time.

I ignored him.

As the driver opened the door I saw five of Chamberlin’s men standing at the entrance of the casino, waiting to escort us inside, all of them dressed in James Bond attire. Frank carried the briefcase with the money while I twitched my trigger finger, keeping it ready for anything.

There was no talking while we entered the large establishment and stepped into a private elevator. Everything about the place was typical, from the cheesy music and red carpet atmosphere to the hot waitresses smiling their fake smiles. Drunk gamblers laughing and crying, retired old souls wasting their last bit of cash in hopes of dying large, it was a normal Tuesday afternoon.

On the way to the top floor I kept seeing Amy’s face, along with the image of Chamberlin doing things to her. And the more I played out the scenario, the more it pissed me off.

Frank had already made it clear he didn’t approve of my mysterious motives, because he knew we were walking into a shit-storm. Given that the unspoken rule among high ranking crime lords is to stay out of each other’s business, we were doing the exact opposite. I wasn’t scared of Chamberlin, but I could potentially start an unnecessary war. Since the last time I put him in his place he has kept to his side of the city, so I had no reason to get in his face.

The elevator doors opened into a wide corridor with two heavily armed guards. The velvet red walls behind them were decorated with majestic oil paintings of war scenes, depicting Viking armies viciously slaughtering everyone in their way – a supposed warning to everyone who overstayed their welcome. I could only assume the color was supposed to accentuate the bloodshed in the paintings, but to me it just seemed tacky.

The two guards approached us like trained dogs.

“This is where we take your weapons, Mr. Kincaid.”

Frank gave me an uneasy look. He didn’t feel comfortable parting with his weapon, and neither did I. Without waiting, the two men stepped forward to pat us down.

“If you touch me I’ll add another graphic painting to that wall.” I warned the guy closest to me.

He hesitated while staring at his companion.

“It’s okay fellas! Let them in!” Chamberlin’s husky voice sounded from the far side of the corridor.

In physical terms Chamberlin didn’t pose a threat to anybody. He was short and stocky, bald and overweight. What he lacked physically he made up for in power and determination. Out of all the fuckers who wanted me dead, he was the guy with the biggest odds of making it happen. Smart, resourceful and merciless, these were the elements that made the prick so fucking dangerous.

His office overlooked the main floor of the busy casino, and I wasn’t surprised that he had two more guards standing in the corners like statutes. His desk took almost half the space inside the huge office – probably his way of over compensating for his tiny dick – and the lights were dimmed, giving unnecessary life to the god-awful neon lights next to the wall-mounted fish tanks. It felt like I was walking onto a seventies porn set. A really bad one at that.

“Please, have a seat.” He gestured to the tightly stretched leather chairs.

I switched my senses onto a level of extra awareness as I sat down. I never trusted Chamberlin, especially when he was friendly.

“So, what brings Nick Kincaid to my humble casino?” Chamberlin asked as he sunk his fat ass into his chair, making it crunch under the pressure.

“You invited me.” I refreshed his memory.

“Oh yes, yes, I heard you were fishing for information about a little shit called Daniel…Dawson… is it? I don’t know why you’re wasting your time with him. Fuck, I didn’t even know he existed until you brought him to my attention.”

I could tell what Frank was thinking at that point.

“Yeah, well, this trip wouldn’t have been necessary if your bookie just took the money.” I said with some irritation.

“Oh, come on, Nick. It’s not often that the most powerful man in the city starts running around, desperate to pay someone else’s debt. Given your lone-wolf personality and all, you can understand my curiosity. So…what’s the deal?”

“It’s my business, Chamberlin. Just take the fucking money and forget him. It’s not like he made you any poorer.”

“You’re right. I should just forget it, shouldn’t I? But here’s the part I don’t understand. He pays half of his debt to my bookie, with money he hustled from you. Then you beat the shit out of him, and now you want to help him? What’s that about? It’s almost like the little bastard has you by the balls or something.”

I could feel Frank staring at me, as if to say he warned me this would happen.

“The less you understand the better. Now, can I just give you the money and go? This place makes me feel like something that crawled out of the gutter.”

As much as I wanted to blow his head off and leave his guards scattered around his office, Chamberlin had something I didn’t – a large family. I wouldn’t be chopping off the head of my enemy. I’d only be stabbing the eye of a big monster. It wasn’t a smart business move. Besides, I was still hanging on to my doubts for getting involved in the first place.

“Still the same arrogant asshole. Alright, fine, I’ll keep my nose clean. But you should know, the price just tripled.”

Chamberlin hoped he could piss me off by throwing his weight around, literally.

“I anticipated as much,” I signaled Frank to put the briefcase on Chamberlin’s table, “Which is why there’s fifty thousand in there.”

Chamberlin wasn’t impressed.

“Then I guess we have nothing further to discuss.” He nodded his head to the guard on his right, who stepped forward and took possession of the case.

“Good.” I replied while getting up.

Frank followed and we headed for the elevator.

“You know, Kincaid, that cocky attitude is going to be the end of you someday!” Chamberlin shouted in the distance.

“Today isn’t that day fat ass.” I mumbled back.
