Intro: Jonah the Breeder [Part 1][OC][MF][female perspective][non-fiction]

This story takes place over the span of several years. The name and some minor details have been changed but this is a true story. This is my second series. Thank you for reading, all feedback is appreciated! This story is for a fan :*

**This first part of the series is nothing sexual, just intro and the telling of our first date. **

Jonah and I met on your standard online dating app. He was successful, kind, and incredibly smart. We’d been talking on the app for a few weeks so I agreed to go on a date with him. I was hesitant because he was so much older than me; I was 23 and he was 32. It made me a little nervous to date someone so much older but he seemed like a nice, put together guy, so I thought I’d give him a chance. One date couldn’t hurt, right?

Our first date took place in the fall of 2016. It was starting to get cold so I could finally wear all my favorite fall outfits I’d perfectly curated. As a ginger, I look incredible in fall colors. For that date, I decided to wear my plaid skirt with a green blouse. I had on sweater stockings and a cute pair of brown leather heeled boots. The tasteful three inch heel brought my height to almost 6 feet. His profile said 5’11” so now I’d know if he’d fibbed about his height like the last guy I met on the app. I put on my makeup and left my hair in its natural state; long and wavy, ending at the small of my waist.

I got into my car and texted him; “I’m on my way :) I’ll be there in 15.”

“I just arrived; I’ll be waiting out front for you. Can’t wait to finally meet you.”

Oh hell, our first date and I’m already late! Typical!

I took a deep breath and said to myself quietly. “Settle down, Vess. Just because he’s early doesn’t mean you’re late. Just drive like a normal, sane, human being. He knows it’s going to be 15 minutes.” I took another deep breath, put on my seat belt, and started driving towards the restaurant.

I continued my deep breathing the whole way there, frantically checking my makeup at every red light with my rear view mirror. Was this red lipstick too bold? Does this mascara make me look like a doll? Should I have shown more cleavage? Green light. “Chill, babe” I reminded myself. “You’ve done this a million times; it’s just like all the other first dates. You look amazing and you have a wonderful personality, just like your therapist constantly reminds you when you freak out like this.” The anxiety was palpable. Did I mention I have anxiety?

But this time felt different. This guy was older. This guy hadn’t been a creep yet, he hadn’t even asked me for nudes after like 3 weeks of texting. He was just… nice. And attractive. And well read. And had a great career. I’m just a nanny fresh out of college trying desperately to afford my studio apartment in the city. Okay, its official, I’m spiraling.

I pulled over into the nearest parking lot, put the car in park, and dialed my bestie. After a few rings she answered and I blurted out “I’m spiraling, I need you! Tell me I’m amazing and it’s not weird that I’m a poor nanny dating a tech whiz in his thirties!!”

She laughed and said in her calmest voice “Okay babe I need you to breathe. Repeat back to me, “I am a nerd goddess extraordinaire.”

I closed my eyes and exhaled “I am a nerd goddess extraordinaire.”

“I have an amazing job that I love where I am respected” she said, almost robotically.

“I have an amazing job that I love where I am respected” Damn right I do. Okay. Anxiety subsiding.

“I will not let this old dude psych me out.”

I chuckled, more relaxed now “I will not let this old dude psych me out.”

“I have a pussy of pure gold and tits of diamond” she continued, robotically.

I burst out laughing. “You’re ridiculous, I love you.”

“SAY IT BACK” she commanded.

I yelled into the phone “I have a pussy of pure gold and tits of diamond!!” I laughed and relaxed back into my seat.

“You’ve got this babe. Call me if you need me again, okay? Either way I’m calling you at 11 to make sure you didn’t get kidnapped, okay?”

“Thank you so much, I really needed that. Love you, babe!” I hung up, put the car in drive, and continued on my way to the restaurant. Honestly, I felt pretty damn empowered after that. Kae always had my back.

However, I felt my anxiety start to bubble back up as I realized I was an extra 5 minutes late now. It was completely worth it, but I hated the thought of him waiting out in the cold for me. Oh well. Nothing I can do about it now.

I pulled up to the restaurant and caught a glance of him waiting out front. He was bald in a sexy way with a bright red beard. He was wearing a grey suit with a blue tie. I thought techie guys just wore skinny jeans and hoodies? Did he dress up for me? I smiled. I guess I’ll have to ask.

I checked my makeup one last time and climbed out of the car. He must have seen me pull in because he had his eyes locked on me as soon as I turned around. He smiled and waved. I grinned, looked down shyly, and waved back.

“I’m so sorry to keep you waiting!” He stood there calmly, hands in his pockets, watching me scamper hurriedly towards him. “No worries at all. I’m just enjoying the weather. I’m glad you got here safe, that’s my only concern.”

Oh boy. And he’s a gentleman in real life too.

“Shall we?” He gestured towards the door, walking up towards it and opening it for me. A blast of warm air hit my face as the heat from the inside met the cool air outside. The restaurant was bright, with lots of gold hues, and loud with the sound of chatter and laughing. The strong smell of warm spices hit my nose as I approached the hostess.

“Hi there! I have a reservation for Jonah” he said from behind me.

The hostess fiddled with her papers for a moment before saying “Right this way” as she turned around and head into the crowded dining room. I looked back at him and he smiled, gesturing ‘after you’.

I adjusted my purse strap on my shoulder and followed the woman into the dining room, winding through tables full of couples on dates. She led us to a small, round booth in the corner, along the back wall of the dining room. It was a lovely space; we had a view out the window and I could see everyone in the dining room from our spot in the corner. The table cloth was black with wine colored napkins and golden lights. He waited for me to get situations before he slid in next to me.

He gazed at me calmly. “It’s so nice to finally meet you. You’re even more beautiful in person.”

I could feel my whole body blush. My cheeks got hot and I knew he noticed.

“Thank you. It’s nice to finally meet you too. You’re very handsome.” I said shyly as I draped my napkin over my lap and fidgeted with it a bit, straightening out the corners nervously.

“So, you said you’ve never had Indian food before?”

“That’s right!” I looked back up at him “I’ve always wanted to try it but have never gotten around to it. I was worried it would be too spicy for me.”

“Well, this restaurant is a wonderful place to start. They have some mild options; I’ll let you know which. You’re a vegetarian, right?” I nodded and he opened up the menu. He rattled off a couple of names of good options for me but it went in one ear and out the other. His voice was deep yet soft and gentle. He had bright green eyes and even more freckles than I did. He may have seemed calm at first but by the way he was adjusting his tie I could tell he was a little nervous as well. This really put me at ease to know I wasn’t alone.

“That sound’s great” I replied, unaware of what I’d just said I would order. “I appreciate you walking me through the options” I said and smiled at him. He smiled back and looked back down at his menu, deciding what he’d get for himself. I continued to watch him. I’ll admit, I liked watching him squirm a bit. My nerves left me entirely as I reminded myself, just like Kae said, “I am a nerd goddess extraordinaire.”

The waitress took our orders and left us some water. He ordered some wine for us, I forget which type. I’ve never been a fan of wine, but I always drink it when I’m out. I’d feel weird ordering a gin and tonic wherever I go.

“So,” I asked “What’s with the suit? I honestly assumed all the tech guys around here just wore hoodies.” He laughed. “Yeah, I guess a lot of us do. I’m trying to get a promotion though, really work my way up, so I want to make a good impression with the higher-ups.”

“That makes sense. You do look really nice in a suit. Now that I think of it, I can’t even imagine you in a hoodie and jeans… it doesn’t SUIT you” I grinned, heavily laying on that pun, waiting to see if he got it. He must have been drunk on the wine already because a smile slowly covered his whole face and he let out a deep, hearty laugh.

“Very punny” he replied.

“I also have dad jokes if you like where that came from” I said and we laughed together.

Now that we’d broken the ice, the conversation flowed easily for the rest of the evening. We talked about work, family, and our hopes for the future. All the standard date topics, you know. He was a gentleman and an absolute nerd, which luckily is just my type. He did mention being a little hesitant because I was so young, which put me at ease. I was glad to know that he had his reservations about the age gap just like I did.

I found out that he had actually been married for most of his twenties. He was just now getting back out into the dating scene, which I think why we felt like such a good fit. I’m an old soul with lots of dating under my belt and he’s completely missed dating in his 20’s.

It had been a couple hours and by this point in the evening I was a few glasses deep. I’ll admit, I rarely drink, so I was the type of drunk where I still have my wits about me but I’m definitely sharing more than I normally would on a first date and I’m absolutely asking some questions that may be seen as inappropriate. By the glow of his cheeks and laughing, I figure he was at about the same level.

My curiosity got the best of me. I finally asked him “So, you were married for almost a decade, why did things end between you two?” He sighed disappointedly “I want kids. Like, I really want kids. I’ve always wanted to be a dad. But after a while we found out she couldn’t have children. It caused all this stress between us and she felt like she wasn’t enough on her own. It ended up being the end of our marriage. I’m not getting any younger and this is something I’ve always known I wanted and she couldn’t give me that.”

I felt a twinge of heartache for him as I listened to his story. Given my age, every guy I know is desperately trying to AVOID having children, and any mention of the topic is a red flag for them. But here Jonah was, heartbroken to find out after years of marriage that his wife was unable to give him children, something he so desperately wanted. Desperately wanting to comfort him, I nearly blurted out “I’d give you children!” but then I quickly realized my drunken comment would be neither true nor helpful. I quickly gathered my drunken thoughts.

“I’m so sorry; I didn’t mean to stir up bad feelings. I never would have guessed the reason would be something so upsetting. I honestly just assumed you were going to say she was boring in bed or something” I said, trying to lighten the mood a bit.

“Well, she was also boring in bed” he said, laughing. “That made the decision easier.”

“So… you really want kids then? No doubt about it? I guess what I’m wondering is… what are you looking for, out of dating?” I asked, a bit hesitantly, as I could pretty well guess his intentions by now.

“Yes.” He said firmly. “I’m looking for my next wife, for the mother of my children.” He said calmly, looking directly into my eyes. He reached for his wine and took a sip, all without breaking eye contact.

I got chills all over my body and felt my breath catch for a moment. It was something about the way he said it. He was so driven, so completely sure of his intentions. That kind of drive turned me on. Now, I’m not saying I’m ready to have a baby at 23 but part of me was turned on by him wanting it to possibly be with me.

I managed to say quietly “I see.”

He sensed my hesitation and followed up with “How do you feel about that?”

“I have to admit, I pretty caught off guard. I appreciate your honesty and it’s good to know your intentions but I’m not really sure what to do with that information.” I said, almost saying it like a question. My mind was racing. I took another sip of wine. Nope, two sips. Maybe three.

He continued watching me, with calm attention. “It’s okay, you don’t have to do anything with that information. I just want you to know where I’m at. Don’t worry; I’m not asking you to have my babies right here right now or anything. But my plan is to marry a woman and give her my children. You may or may not be that woman… there’s no way for us to know that right now. We’ll just see where things go, like with any other date.”

I furrowed my brow, watching the flame flicker in the small tea light on the table. I tried to process everything he had just told me. I was wracking my brain, future tripping about what our babies would look like. Ginger, no doubt. Pale af. Beautiful eyes, though! Oh, and so smart. I caught myself chewing on my lip like I do when I’m deep in focus. In my periphery I could see him waiting patiently, studying my reaction. I started to nod my head slowly as I finally started to get a handle on all the information he’d just thrown at me.

“Okay” I nodded “Okay. I understand. Thank you for clarifying, that helps. That gives me a lot to think about.”

“I’m sorry, I don’t usually drink this much or, for that matter, share this much. I’ll admit I was really nervous about this date. You’re so beautiful and I know I’m probably a bit old for you. I’m glad you agreed to come out with me tonight.”

I smiled and assured him “It’s okay; I don’t normally drink this much either. I really value honestly so I’m glad you told me everything you did. I’m going to move forward with that in the back of my mind. Now that I know your intentions, I won’t waste your time if I decide I’m just looking for something casual.”

“Move forward?” He asked “So does that mean you’ll go on a second date with me?”

I smiled “Yes, I’d like that.”

He smiled, looking a bit relieved he hadn’t scared me off with his drunken confessions. “Maybe less wine next time, huh?”

I laughed “Yeah maybe a sober date next time to balance things out, what do you think?”

“Sounds like a date” he smiled.

I gathered my things from the booth. He walked me out, his hand gently on my lower back, guiding me through the dining room. We were the last ones there.

We stepped out into the cool, windy night. I took in a big breath of fresh air. I felt his hand on the side of my waist and I looked back towards him. The wind brushed some hair into my face and he gently swept it out of the way.

“I had a really nice time with you tonight. You’re wonderful to talk to.”

I blushed and smiled. I looked into his bright green eyes. “I had a really nice time too. I’m glad we got to meet. I’ve never dated anyone like you before.”

“In a good way, I hope.”

I ran my hand along his cheek, running my nails through his beard. “Yes, in a good way.”

We paused there a moment, gazing into each other’s eyes.

“Text me when you’re home safe” He said quietly.

“Mmhmm” I said quietly, nodding.

He turned away and slowly walked to his car.

After a momentary pause, I turned around and climbed into my car, stunned. What just happened? That was the perfect kiss set up, why didn’t he kiss me? Did I do something wrong? The anxiety was back. What the hell was that?

I quickly went over the details of the night in my head. That was… weird, right? The whole thing was kind of weird. I waited there for who knows how long thinking about the evening. Just then, I heard my phone ring. It was Kae.

I answered and whined “Kae, he didn’t kiss me! It was the perfect moment and he didn’t kiss me!”

“Aww babe. What happened, was it a bad date?” she asked, sympathetically.

“No… I mean… I don’t know. It was really weird. You’re not going to believe it; I have to tell you all about it. Brunch tomorrow?”

“Sure thing babe. I’m glad you’re still alive, anyways. Call me in the morning, okay?”

“Will do.”

I hung up, put on my seatbelt, and just as I was about to drive off my phone chimed. A text?

It was Jonah.

“I wanted to kiss you so badly but I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to stop. Can’t wait to see you again, beautiful.”

Damn. Okay, he’s forgiven. I drove home with a smile on my face. I kept thinking about him. Could I really see myself as a mom?
