“Dumb Sith.” Thamar grunted in her native tongue as she slowly let down Xau’s unconscious form on the cave floor. The place was wet and the rain that had started an hour ago had not ended. The entrance to the cave was nearly continuously covered in a wall of falling water when the Mandalorian looked back towards the opening. She hoped that it would mess with the sensors of the people hunting them. ‘Hunting Xau’ She corrected herself as she turned him over gently and used a refine medic’s care as she removed the clothing hear his shoulder wound. The blast from the sniper rifle had punctured deep and Thamar just hoped that the bacta would be able to do its job.
“Is he dead?” A nervous voice asked behind Thamar. Though the voice seemed timid there was still an underlying sense of expectation to it. The owner of that voice seemed used to people immediately replying to it, so of course Thamar took her time. When she finally turned around she saw the Arkanian offshoot scientist laying down her damp coat while Sinde Listentis; the Republic senator who had been a pain in Thamar’s ass since she’d saved Xau’s shebs, hovered just beyond the Mandalorian’s reach.
“No he’s not dead idiot. If he was dead I would have left him for some jungle beast to eat. He’s no good to me dead.” Thamar said with a half grumble before she turned back towards Xau. Part of her still wanted to leave the fool but he was a powerful warrior when he wasn’t half blown up and she liked having powerful warriors to fight her enemies. “What are you talking about we just got here?” The black haired woman with the lone white streak in her long hair stated as she moved closer towards Thamar.
The Mandalorian slowly turned her visored gaze back to the senator while checking to make sure her carbonizer had survived the engagement with the speeder bike jockeys. The weapon was fully functional and she still had a large store of explosive, tranquilizer, corrosive and net darts but her supply wasn’t infinite. Finally she replied to the senator’s queries.
“We need to get back to the ship and get off this planet. We stay here and it’s only a matter of time before they catch us, and kill us. “Thamar hoped that she had hidden the ship well enough. When the sensors detected the multiple entries from hyperspace the Mandalorian had powered up the vessel and then lowered it down into a deep canyon. It would remain safe for a time, but how much time was anyone’s guess. In this situation time was an ever increasingly precious commodity. She wouldn’t just abandon Xau but it would take time for him to walk and even then they would be slow in their speed. Prime targets for the men and women with guns still out there. One way or another we’ll have to leave soon. Thamar thought though most of her instincts were driving her to abandon the whiney senator and the injured Sith if only to take the scientist and request an award from the Republic for her safe return.
Suddenly she heard a quite groan and turned to see Xau stirring on the cavern floor. She looked over at the senator quietly. “Stay here and watch for trouble,” Thamar had placed some proximity mines around the entrance earlier but it helped to have more warning if she could get it. When she got close Thamar saw Xau give her a small smile.
“You should see the other guy.”
“I did, he didn’t seem that beat up when I lodged an explosive dart in his throat. Your feet work?” She asked briskly. Charming as Xau’s bravado might be she didn’t have time to indulge him. She was surprised to see him moving or talking at all after the wounds he had received. The Bounty Hunter had to remind herself that the powers of the Force were an ever present factor when dealing with Xau. Even when he looked defenseless he could still call upon the mystical energy source and be granted powers that Mandalorians could only imagine. It seemed in this case the Sith must have picked up some Jedi healing here and there. Whatever the case, if he could move then maybe their odds of survival were increasing.
Xau nodded but didn’t rise up. “No point moving now. There are at least four, maybe five of them out there. Not close but not far enough. We could move but I’d prefer to not have to avoid an entire squire of those schutta.” Thamar saw Sinde approaching from the edge of her field of vision and the Mandalorian nodded her head towards the scientist before pointing towards the entrance of the camp. The Arkanian off-shoot rose up, dusted off her coat and then picked up the blaster that the senator had left near Xau.
“Did you see anyone else before you came across us?” Xau asked before taking a swig of water from the canteen Sinde offered him.
“No, no one alive anyhow. Didn’t see the blonde girl if that’s what you’re asking. As soon as you feel them get out of the area let me know so I can scout things out.” Thamar stated before clenching her gauntleted hands together at the thought of taking out some more of those mercenaries. Despite all the odds against her and the rest of the small group she couldn’t help but be excited. She thrived on conflict and overcoming a difficult environment. It was the true test of any warrior to survive where so many others had not.
In short order Xau sensed that the area around them was devoid of the hunters and they decided to make their move. Since Sinde was the stronger woman compared to the scientist she helped to support Xau who kept his right hand ready with his blaster pistol. The scientist carried her own weapon but she had quickly noted that she’d never fired a weapon before so she was second only to Sinde in worthlessness in a combat situation. The rain continued to pelt Thamar’s armor but it was a minor annoyance to the possibility of death as the group moved through dark muddy terrain and gnarled roots that threatened to trip them up, especially Sinde and Xau. They were in route towards the canyon that Thamar had landed at when the group came upon the entrance of a large ruin. The structure was seemingly built into the side of a large mountain and had jagged tipped pillars and large oval doors that were nearly covered in jungle overgrowth.
The scientist in particular seemed adamant about studying the ruins. “That temple is incredible; I’ve never seen anything like it. I was restricted to the camp for the whole time I’ve been here. If we leave now the odds that I can return to this planet are slim enough.”
Thamar was in no mood for such trivialness. So she just kept on moving after motioning Sinde and Xau to continue moving forward. “Feel free to stick around. I don’t need anyone else slowing me down. I’m sure those mercenaries will be happy to give you a lift off the planet once you’re done snooping around.” The scientist seemed to get even more pale than her white skin allowed before the entire group turned towards the sounds of engines approaching them. Thamar turned quickly over towards Xau, wondering how he hadn’t detected the ship earlier.
“We need to get into that temple now.” Xau stated as he kept his blaster trained on the direction that the ship seemed to be coming from.
“We’ll get locked in again and we have no idea about if there is an exit out of that place.”
“I can sense a great disturbance. And those engines are large, something big is coming. Sinde let’s move.” Xau replied back curtly and the two started moving towards the entrance. The scientist looked off in the direction of the engines before she followed the two and opened up the doors to the ruins. Thamar growled inside of her helmet before she rushed in after the rest of the group. The heavy doors opened with her strength added with the scientists and the four rushed in. Before closing the door Thamar turned around and aimed her dart launcher towards one of the trees nearby. With a press of a button she launched a remote camera dart into the ugly looking plant and then helped the Arkanian close the door behind them.
Inside the bounty hunter found that she was right. The small hallway that they had entered in had an exit but the door leading further into the ruins would not budge, even with Sinde, the scientists and herself trying to wedge it open. She slammed her fist onto the door with a grunt in frustration before she started to check out the feed from the remote dart. What she saw turned her gut. The ship was large indeed but it wasn’t the size that disturbed her so much as what it was dropping off. Dozens upon dozens of black steel battle droids were being unloaded into the jungle outside of the ruins. The droids had sharp looking heads and full armored chests. They did not look like they were coming to help the beleaguered group either.
“Battle droids, a whole invasion force. Someone really wants to make sure that you don’t leave this place alive.” Thamar said before letting the Sith know that at least for the moment the droids didn’t appear concerned with checking out the ruins. She just hoped that their stupidity would hold out long enough for the group to make their escape.
“Thamar. You’ve been going for a while now. Rest up and I’ll let you know when it’s time to move.” The bounty hunter turned back to the Sith.
“You’re still injured Xau.”
“I’m well enough to watch for droids trying to open a large stone door. And I’m sure the scientist will be wired for hours now that she has the chance to check things out. I’ll be sure to wake you and Sinde up in case of trouble. You’re no good to us with no energy Thamar, you know that.” Xau said and Thamar had to accept that he was right; she was starting to run on fumes. A rest would do her some good.
She removed part of her gauntlet and tossed it over to Xau. “That’s the live feed, any trouble and you wake me up.” Xau nodded before the Mandalorian settled down with her back near the doors and her blasters at the ready. Looking over at the Senator she nodded over to Sinde. “Come on Sinde, it’ll be easier to rest with something soft against my shoulder.” Thamar grinned behind her helmet. Sinde didn’t look amused but she eventually nodded and settled in besides the Mandalorian. It didn’t take long before Thamar saw her nod off before the Mandalorian herself finally managed to close her eyes.

The two were such an odd pair but he was glad that they could at least keep themselves in check long enough to rest up. The infiltrator rolled his neck to relax his muscles a bit before he turned back to look for the back exit. He figured the Scientist would be busy examining every single inch of the door, both for study and the possibility of escape. Suddenly however he noticed that she was just kneeling off to his side, her bright aqua eyes gazing intently towards him.
“Well… um hello. Sorry I never got your name.” The Sith said though he was surprised that the scientist wasn’t busy looking over the interior of the ruins.
“It’s Doctor Kikional Desarn. But you can call me Kiki Xau. Don’t worry about not having asked, we’ve been busy trying to survive all those wonderful people trying to blast us. But now we finally have a chance to get to know each other better. You for instance are proving quite interesting for a Jedi who just happened to come to the planet on a whim.” Kiki said with a charming smile as she leaned in closer towards Xau and rest a hand just before his leg. Xau straightened up slightly as his dark blue eyes gazed into her pools of teal as she remained close to his form.
“The Force is always talking to just about every Jedi. It’s for us to interpret what it means and for me it told me to come to Sorafin.” Xau said as he seemingly felt his healing process quickening. Against his better nature he had been using one of the Jedi tricks he had picked up during his tutelage. Having to use such a lightside centric ability made him sick to his stomach but he couldn’t deny the results. Now however he felt himself getting better by the moment. His mind was distracted when he felt the Arkanian’s fingers stroking his leg as she leaned in even closer towards him.
“If I could I would study Jedi and Sith for years. There is so much that regular people will never be able to fully know but even to penetrate one layer of that would be amazing. That sort of power always catches my mind; it’s so mysterious and dangerous. Xau wrapped up the device with a strip of his shirt and then got himself dressed again. As he rose up and held the sealed up package in one hand Xau knew that now he had little to fear from the mess of droids that waited for him and his allies. It was time to take the fight to the hunters and put an end to the predators that thought to destroy him.

At the entrance to the ruins a patrol of twelve battle droids moved through the jungle seeking any sign of their prey. Suddenly half of them stopped when they saw the large doors of the ruins starting to rumble and shit. Four of the droids immediately took off and then leveled their blaster rifles at the door.
“Check it out corporal.” The droid sergeant said as the rest of the squad moved in behind him.
“Roger roger.” One of the droids said and advanced before suddenly both of the doors exploded outward from their hinges. The droids immediately on the door’s war path were neatly destroyed leaving at least five pairs of feet where once full bodies had stood. The sergeant who had stood right in the middle looked up and noticed a figure walking towards them with a brilliant orange lightsaber hanging low to their right side.
“Uh oh!” The droid managed to say before the man they had been hunting was amongst them, hacking, slashing and blasting droids through the Force until the entire squad had been eviscerated. It was time for war.
