Contemporary literary erotic fiction

Hello,

I’ve been looking in vain for this kind of book, namely contemporary literary erotic fiction. Or contemporary literary fiction with a heavy erotic content (like Philip Roth’s books for example). Lots of what I have read seem like catalogues of sexual practices and I find a more global context is missing and making identification less easy. Most of what I come across is either fantasy, Harlequin-like romances or 50 shades-like books and these types don’t work for me at all. I guess I need something more realistic. I really need to read something well-written too. Written by a female author if possible (not mandatory). It can be about straight, lesbian, gay, bi or pan people. But I don’t like BDSM depictions.

Sorry for being so specific, but I’m really curious to know if this kind of book exists. I must not be the only one looking for that kind of thing. But still, when browsing here and there I haven’t found much yet… Thank you!

  1. Kresley Cole does some awesome russian contemporary romance-esque stuff. She also does a shit ton of speculative fiction but ignore that. This genre is my jam

  2. As a creative writer looking to dabble in erotic lit, can you explain what you mean by realistic? Or, even, just what would appeal to you in a story?

  3. Sexual Life of Catherine M by Millet

Any of Tamara Faith Berger’s books, she was a porn script writer who went mainstream

    Choke by Palahniuk

Memories of My Melancholy Whores by Marquez (strangely sensual but not sexual)

    Ada or Ardor by Nabokov

  4. For some short stories check out the romance and novel sections of literotica. 1000’s of works. You may have to search a bit but most any kind of taste can be accommodated
