A new World [dystopian future] [multipart series] [multiple women] Part 4

This is Part 4 of my series. As always please comment on ways to improve and better my writing.

Maria: “Don’t worry, one of my girls will translate it for you. How else could I do business with them.”
I am relieved that we don’t have to learn Czech to deliver the order.
After a good dinner we hit the road. Alina drives and Taylor sits next to her.
I sit down with the two of them and start a conversation with Taylor.
“Are you two together?”:I ask Taylor.
She blushes and replies, “Well we’re not together but we have fun together sometimes and…”
“It’s okay, I’m not blaming you. Love who you want to love. I’m just curious.” :I reassure her.
I leave the conversation and lean back in my seat and doze a little as Taylor sits down on top of me. I put my arms around her and we sleep away.
After two hours of driving I am woken up by Alina. Taylor is still lying on me but wakes up when I move.
We are at the Czech border and you can still clearly see the damage from the last war.
The Russian-European War, the last outcry of Russia, destroyed much in Eastern Europe. Through the help of NATO and the Americans, Germany has hardly any damage, but the further east you go, the more is broken and has never been rebuilt.
And we are standing in front of a big crater in the middle of the road and to the left and right of it is forest.
I go to our radio in the hope that someone is near with an idea how to get through there.
It has become quite late and we all lay down to sleep.
The next morning I wake up to a knock on the door.
I grab my revolver and go to the door.
Standing in front of the door is a well-toned man as tall as he is wide and tall enough to have to duck his head when he gets in.
I offer him breakfast and we eat together.
“So you want to take the vehicle through the crater?” asks the man after he has finished eating.
“There is no question of wanting to. We have to go to Prague to deliver the cargo.” I answer while still eating.
Alina nudges me not to talk with food in my mouth.
I finish chewing and ask the man if he knows a way through or around.
He answers that he knows a way and we should follow him.
He gets out and walks ahead. We just get through with the bus and the trailers.
On the other side of the crater we thank him and give him some of our provisions. We drive on and arrive in Prague after three more hours.
As soon as we arrive we are radioed and told that we are looking for a smaller woman in a white protective suit. Melissa calls out to the front that she sees the woman.
We drive up to her and she gets on the bus.
“Hi. Are you the ones from Dresden?” :she asks with a sad undertone.
“Yes. Are you the one who is supposed to take us to the gate?”: asks Alina.
“Yes I am.”: she answers meekly.
“What’s your name?”: I ask.
“I’m Alice.”: she answers now almost inaudibly quietly.
Alina takes her in her arms and brings her to the back.
I hear her crying softly.
After a few minutes Melissa comes forward and tells me where to go.
Once there, men unload and load and after a short time a figure comes to the door.
I open the door and the protective suit turns out to be Maria’s business partner.
“Hello, I see you have already taken Alice in. There has been a change of plans. She was supposed to stay here, but Maria needs girls. Therefore you take her with you.”: she speaks coldly and calculatingly in broken German.
She barely finishes speaking before turning to leave.
Alice, on the other hand, does not take the news well and breaks down completely.
Alina and Taylor lie down with her and hug her.
A short time later, there is a knock on the window and I drive back.
It has become quiet in the bus. Only the sound of the engine and Alice’s sobs can be heard.
I have chosen a route for the way back that does not lead through the middle of craters or obstacles and we are back in Germany after 3 hours.
“Another hour and then it’s closing time for today”: I think to myself as I am torn from my thoughts.
“You know her, don’t you?”: Melissa asks me.
“What makes you think that?”: I ask back.

“You are often a cold-hearted asshole, but you welcomed us all warmly, and comforted us when we were down. Now you don’t, which tells me that either you hate Alice or you know her and know you can’t comfort her.”: she explains to me; “Which is it?”
“Do you have something in life that you massively regret? A biggest mistake? Something you would give your life to undo?” :I ask Melissa with tears in my eyes.
Melissa hugs me and I stop the bus.
Melissa replies, “No I don’t have anything I regret so much that I would give my life to undo it.”
“I do. I brought a daughter into this world 19 years ago.” :I speak through tears, “And Alice reminds me of her.”
Melissa takes me tighter in her arms and we hold out like that for a while.
After some time she pulls me out of the seat and we lie down. I feel the bus moving and fall asleep with Melissa in my arms.
I wake up when it is almost dark.
I free myself from Melissa’s embrace and go to Alina who is driving.
Arriving in front I see the light of Dresden and kiss Alina.
“What about you?” :Alina asks me without looking up.
“I’m fine”: I answer.
“No, you’re not fine. Otherwise you would talk to Alice, you would have comforted her and you would be with her. But you actively avoid contact with her, don’t talk to her and lie crying in Melissa’s arms. But go ahead and tell yourself that you’re fine.” : Alina reproaches me.
“It’s …”: I start to explain, but Alina interrupts me: “No! You’re fine, I don’t want to hear anything.”
I breathe heavily and slump a little.
“You’re right, I’m not fine.” : I answer.
“Who is she?”: asks me Alina.
“I don’t know. But what I do know is that she reminds me of my daughter.”: I answer.
Alina swallows hard and has to cough.
“She What? Wait? You have a daughter?”: asks Alina after she regains her composure.
“Yes. That’s why I’m so cold towards Alice. I regret bringing my daughter into this world.”: I answer in a submissive tone.
