**Trigger Warning: Very slight mentions of gore and filth. It’s The Hells after all.**

Since she had crawled out of the portal that her Master had opened, Ivy had experienced ever-growing levels of anguish.

When He had told her about their destination, an Icy ball of despair had manifested in her gut. She had felt the bile rising up her throat, and only the thought of what would have happened to her had she emptied her stomach in front of her Master had kept her from being sick. They were going to see Rei, and Ivy would have to confront her sin.

While a part of her had spent every day since Lord Elzor had taken Rei, wondering what horrible fate He had reserved for her friend, another much larger part would rather have died than face the consequence of her disgusting selfishness. For that reason, she had almost refused to follow her Master through the portal after Mistress Daisy had helped her wear her full restraints. The only thing forcing her trembling body to move was the prospect of being punished with Soul Pain, something she had to avoid at all costs.

And so she crawled on her knees and elbows since the leather straps kept her limbs folded upon themselves. Her mouth was open wide and drooling, unable to close due to a ball gag almost the size of an apple that threatened to dislodge her jaw if she wasn’t careful. Daisy had lodged the tail deep inside Ivy’s ass, but it was not wagging, for once. She couldn’t find respite in arousal today, but only an overwhelming sense of dread as Master and slave approached Lord Elzor’s devilish mansion.

“It’s terrifying, isn’t it?”

Ivy could only nod. She was trying her hardest to avoid looking at her surroundings by focusing on the jagged obsidian terrain. What she couldn’t do much about were the screams.

That was the characteristic sound of The Hells. A cacophony of wails from the myriad of souls forced to live in endless agony. She didn’t want to watch; she couldn’t. She couldn’t. She could only put one step after the other. The next step was all that mattered.

“You should look. Burn this view in your mind. This Hellscape is what awaits mortals. This abomination is what I’ve rescued you from.”

Ivy froze on the spot. No. Please. She whimpered without raising her eyes. The blood-curling screams were enough to make her appreciate her position as Master’s pet. She didn’t need to see. Master had phrased His order as a suggestion, so she could ignore it and keep looking at the ground.

“Ivy. Look.”

Fuck.

Her Soul Brand flared, and the promise of agony invaded her mind. Master’s control had only increased since He had become a God, and the mere thought of disobedience flooded her with such fear that it was a form of agony unto itself.

She tried fighting it for once. It didn’t work. Trembling like a leaf, she raised her eyes from the obsidian floor, laying her eyes on The Hells for the first time.

The amount of suffering she saw was so overwhelming that her mind struggled to interpret the cursed images her eyes were feeding to it.

Gore, bones, dust, nerves, skin, wrath, piss, shit, blood and eyes. Eyes, everywhere. Eyes boring into her core. Writhing and begging, screaming, laughing, crying, eating, drinking, swallowing, why? Why? Spikes, blades, teeth, hair, fire, smoke, flesh, scars, please. Please, kill us. Please? Please! Gods, please, please, please, ple—.

When Ivy woke up, she was lying in the courtyard of a hellish mansion. A burning hole in her memories stared at her like a gaping maw, waiting eagerly for the moment she forced herself to remember. The disjointed impressions she had received from laying her eyes upon The Hells had merged in her mind, forming a writhing creature of pure malice that she somehow knew would infect her thoughts forever. Every single one of her thoughts seemed to be somewhat tainted by it, as if an oily substance had spread evenly throughout her brain, making every image, emotion, or concept taste rotten and wrong.

Ivy curled up on herself and emptied the contents of her stomach. A single brush with a fragment of the monster in her mind had been enough to send her reeling, overpowering her self-control. Not even her fear of her Master was enough to stop her from having a massive panic attack. She was afraid He would get mad, but He just looked at her, letting her drown in despair until she somehow managed to calm herself a few minutes later.

“W-w-what is t-this? M-make it leave, please, M-Master. I don’t w-want it in my h-head.”

“I can’t.”

His voice carried a tone of absolute certainty. It was the first time Ivy had ever heard Him say He couldn’t do something.

“B-but why?”

How could it be that the man who literally had control over her soul was not able to cover up the dark blotch occupying her mind like a parasite?

“I cannot remove Him.”

“H-Him?”

“Asmodeus.”

Ivy retched.

———

Eventually, her Master had to use a Soul Mending spell to soothe Ivy’s spirit. When His presence invaded her, she felt herself melt like butter on a stove. All the nausea, guilt, pain, fear, despair, and anguish just vanished. All save the rotten fragment of cosmic horror buried in the deepest recesses of her mind. It wasn’t just the memories, but the knowledge of The Hells being the final destination of every creature in existence. The finality of it was what made the concept so terrifying.

Eternal and inevitable Damnation. Asmodeus’ curse on all creation.

Her Master, one of the only beings that could shield her from an eternity of absolute torment, was tense. As crazy as it sounded, she was able to feel a glimpse of his feelings and mood through her Soul Brand. She was beginning to understand how Lily could read Him so easily. The Soul Brand was a two-way street, even if Master usually held absolute control over it. Her experiences inside His soul were proof of the fact that consciousness could travel in both directions.

After the dreadful experience she had just had, Ivy felt like she could understand Him better. What would she have done had she realized the truth, back when she was still an Imperial Mage? There’s no way she could have resigned herself to end up here, but at the same time, how can you go up against an incomprehensible and all-powerful entity like Asmodeus?

Ivy couldn’t help but wonder how quickly would her morals deteriorate in that situation. Would she climb over others ruthlessly like her Master to put as much space between herself and the monster inside her brain? It was already terrifying to her even though Ivy was as safe as any creature could get. The fragment was now just a corrupted blotch in her mindscape. What would she feel if she was ever wounded or if she got ill? What things would she do in desperation?

She had already witnessed how ugly her true self was when she had thrown Rei down here instead of taking her place. What right did she have to judge her Master if she was just as bad, if not worse, than Him? At least He had managed to make it all worth it. He was now a God and could save a select number of worshippers. What could she say about herself?

Ivy had no time to answer that question because they had finally arrived in front of two enormous metal doors. The entrance to Lord Elzor’s mansion. The air was thick with the stench of blood and waste, and Ivy’s restored mood plummeted again at the thought of her friend. The harrowing experience had temporarily pushed her concerns out of her head. But now, they came back with a vengeance, making her stomach churn and her thoughts rush frantically as images of Rei tortured in the most horrific ways clawed at her mind.

It was for that reason that something deep inside her shattered when the doors opened. Her blood ran cold as she took in the spectacle that made all of her previous fears sound too naive, and Ivy knew for a fact that nobody could ever mend her again.

———

I look at the impressive display that Elzor has prepared for us and sigh. He knows I am coming for him, and this is His way of telling me he’s ready. Luckily, despite this being the worst possible outcome for Ivy, it will end up being good for her once she realizes how impossible it is to overstate a Devil’s cruelty.

Dozens of copies of Rei are struggling in various degrees of bondage around the vast room. Almost a hundred regular Devils are busy inflicting all kinds of horrifying torture on the young girls, who have all been crudely Soul-Bonded to the original Rei, who is caged in the middle of the room, screaming.

I can feel Ivy’s overwhelming despair through our soul connection, but I ignore it. I could pull her out of it, but she needs to understand what we’re up against. She has potential, but she’s not ready yet. This little show will move her along the path I want her to take, and if the seed she took when she visited my soul happens to bloom, then my plans will move forward way faster than expected.

After realizing that Elzor has tampered with Lily’s soul, I spent two days combing through each of my Angels’ souls, looking for weaknesses or other signs of interference. The obvious suspect was Peach Blossom since she was a gift from a Demon, but as far as I can tell, there’s nothing wrong with her, and I don’t plan to use her as more than a Faith generator and cumslave anyhow.

I know Daisy’s soul like the back of my hand at this point, yet I still checked it thoroughly. I doubt anyone could tamper with that one since we have been working on making her soul into an Ancestral Weapon. Having a Zenith reduces the side-effects of Soul Editing, so Soul Mages love to tamper with people who have them. But they also make it much harder to manipulate the creature into doing something that goes against their core objective. My identity as her Master is now so linked to her being a weapon that I doubt even a monster like Ashtaroth could disentangle the two.

I still haven’t met with Lana since I became a God so that only left Ivy, who ended up being the one who was hiding something. A fragment of Freesia’s soul had managed to attach itself to Ivy’s and was developing slowly but surely. One of the reasons I picked Ivy as my new pet was because her soul shared some similarities with Freesia’s fragmented Remnant. This development was somewhat unexpected but by no means unwanted. I have to push forward my plans a little and deal with Elzor now rather than later. I would have liked to understand His motivations for betraying us before going up against Him, but things are starting to move too fast for comfort, and I have to take some risks if I want to stay on top of this game. By visiting him unannounced, I have shown my hand. He knows I am onto him. I might as well get this over with before He has a chance to become even stronger.
“R-R-Rei… Oh, Gods.”

“aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH”

“Gods, no! no! Make it stop, Master, please! Master, save her!”

Some of the devils look in our direction, wary of me. They can sense my divine aura, which is making their survival instincts flare-up. Unfortunately for them, it’s far too late to run away. I look at Ivy, whose sobbing face is rubbing desperately against my leg as she begs for me to do something about her friend. She’s still too naive. She doesn’t realize that if I do this, we will play right into Elzor’s hand. I ponder for a second before patting her head. In the end, I decide to give her what she wants. It will be another valuable lesson on how Devils operate.

I raise my hand and expend some Faith to create an Energy Sink. I guide its effect with my will, allowing it to exist only in specific regions of space — namely those containing the Devils and Rei’s Copies — absorbing all the Thermal Energy from their bodies. Their temperature plummets to almost Absolute Zero before their bodies shatter in minuscule shards of frozen flesh and bone, aided by a quick Force Spell. In less than a second, all the Devils and Reis are gone. All save for the Rei locked in her cage in the middle of the room. Rei is now heaving and gasping for air, curled up on the floor.

“R-Rei! Oh, Gods, Rei! C-can you hear me?”

The girl’s eyes are sunken. Her complexion is pale and sickly. Scars that have been healed multiple times with magic cover her completely. Yet, despite the sorry state of her body, her soul is in far worse shape. The girl’s core looked like a battlefield, where every single memory of her life has been mutilated and left to die an agonizing death. From her perspective, it must feel like He has always been by her side, tormenting her. Not a single untainted memory remains to act as a haven for her broken mind. It’s a thorough job, one no amateur could pull off. Elzor has lost no time breaking the girl, and If I know Him, he took extra care to leave some of those wounds for me to see. He has improved his Soul Magic. He is confident I won’t be able to hurt him.

Ivy crawls to her friend while I stay put, observing my surroundings. The stone floor morphs and stretches into tens of nightmarish mouths with far too many rows of teeth that start devouring the remains of the dozens of Devils I just murdered. None of the mouths dare to touch me or my pet, so I let them do their cleaning.

“Ahhhhh. W-what, A-Alissa? I-Is that you?”

Rei’s face slowly turns from a mask of agony to a relieved smile as she lays her eyes upon her friend.

“Alissa? Who is that? It’s me, Rei. Ivy! Are you all right?”

The Soul Brand is slowly devouring Ivy’s previous identity, except for her magical ability, general knowledge, and everything I consider worthy. Ivy forgetting her original name is proof that the remodeling process is almost complete.

“I-Ivy, yes. Yes! I’m so happy to see you!”

Tears of joy start falling from Rei’s eyes as she tries to get on her knees from her curled-up position.

“I’m happy to see you too! I have be-”

“Master! Master! She’s here! It worked, see? This worm was a good little bait for you! Now you can break her as well!”

“Rei, wha-”

Rei is right. Now that I have killed Elzor’s devils, He has an excuse to fight me according to the rules Asmodeus Himself has imposed upon all Gods and Demons. Unfortunately for Ivy’s friend, I am here to fight him already, so her suffering has all been for nothing. I’m sure Elzor anticipated this, but He still enjoyed knowing she was submitting to endless torture for an ultimately worthless reason.

A flicker in reality, and it’s like the twelve-foot Demon has always been in the room with us. He sits upon His throne made out of jagged bones as he looks down upon us. I can sense a sliver of Asmodeus’ blood coursing through Him, making the monster in our souls sing in delight. I have stared at Asmodeus in the flesh, so this level of malice is nothing to me. But the same cannot be said for Ivy, who is now quivering under His gaze. I’m in no rush to shield her from it. I want today to be a learning experience for my faithful pet.

“You bringing me the girl as a gift?”

He asks, grinning at her. Ivy loses control of her bladder and whimpers in terror while Rei is busy hurting herself as a way to honor her Master’s presence. I can feel Ivy’s thoughts frantically imploring me not to have her join her friend, even if she hates herself for it. I send her a wave of warm, protective thoughts before she becomes another Lily. I will not let Elzor play His games with my puppies anymore.

“I brought her to see what a Demon looks like when He dies. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time.”

“Cocky, aren’t we? You might be a God, but I’m a Demon. I only answer to the Big Boss now.”

Elzor stands up from His throne, stretching His immense neck. His leathery skin is crimson, and it reflects the light from the magical lamps lining the walls, giving off a scarlet hue. The dozens of sharp protrusions made of obsidian make Him impossible to face in close quarters, so I begin reviewing my strategy. His enormous black wings spread out, striking an imposing figure.

“You didn’t bring the sword puppy? Shame. I’ve always wanted to rape the shit out of her.”

I chuckle. Knowing Daisy, it was far more likely the opposite would happen soon enough. The girl’s progress was terrifying, and if not for the complete access I have to her soul, I would have tried to kill her long ago. Bringing her would indeed have been a smart move, but I am confident I can handle Elzor. I’ve had a few days to prepare for this fight, and I’m not letting myself get caught off guard as I did with Seymour.

“Where is Seymour, by the way? I thought you would have him here waiting for me. He might not be a God, but he would have been useful against Daisy.”

A dark expression flickers on Elzor’s horrifying visage before disappearing an instant later. Interesting.

“Enough chatting. Come at me. I’ll show ya exactly how Demons beat the shit of the Gods during The War.”
