Mom and I went on a road trip to the lake over the weekend. It has been a staple for family outings since I was a kid. This also felt like a much deserved break and to our surprise, it was just the two of us when we arrived.
I swam around for a while before joining mom at the picnic table for some snacks. I felt at peace and everything seemed perfect. In a moment of sheer spontaneity, I decided to undo my trunks and dive back into the water. I looked over to see mom covering her mouth and trying to hold back her laughter. I knew what I did was unconventional but I couldn’t help myself. I didn’t care to cover myself when I made my out of the water. I noticed how red her face was when she gave me a towel. We ended up seeing some familiar faces when it was time to head back.
I’d say this was one of the most enjoyable days I’ve had since the pandemic began. And I’m glad to have shared it with the person I care for the most.
