**Chapter Start**
Once Cindy had recovered her strength enough to start walking, she held on a little while longer to try flying. She needed to get out of the area and as far away from those cultists as possible, but she couldn’t risk attempting to fly so quickly. “She’s one of them.” Someone else shouted out. The noise in her ears was no longer as radiating as it had been before, but she still felt more than a bit disoriented. She wanted to be anywhere but here, but she didn’t think trying to fly away was going to solve her problems.
“No she is not look at her. She is a human.” The girl holding Cindy’s hand said as her grip relaxed.
“They could have infiltrators. You heard what the Doc said. They’re all from outer space. Who knows what they could do, or what they could change into?” A soldier with short stubby hair grunted as he kept his assault rifle trained on her heart. He did not look convinced. To her credit Cindy was more confused than threatened. She wanted to know more about this doctor and how he seemed knowledgeable about the invaders from space. Perhaps she could help her. Of course, she had to get out of this mess first.
“I am human. Maybe you can test me or something but I’m human, I swear!” Cindy said but it only made the guy with the gun seem to tense up more.
“Down on your knees now! If you do anything else except dropping to the ground, I will drop you. Do you hear me? I will…”
Suddenly the situation became decidedly worse than it already was. One moment Cindy was surrounded by a group of human soldiers and the next several pods landed in the area. The pods looked like some sort of hodgepodge of different technologies welded into one single armored pod. The doors on all the pods popped open with a loud hiss of compressed air and then they were launched out to the ground. Black and green skinned creatures with dark spikey armor. “Those are aliens.” Cindy declared before she broke free of the hold from the girl soldier and put herself in between herself and the other soldier still holding up his gun.
The nearest alien hissed at her before uttering a string of words that Cindy didn’t understand. Last time it took a while for me to figure out what they were saying. Too bad I’m not going to let these guys stick around. Cindy crouched low and then dove for the nearest enemy. “Very good work Cindy. I am sure this has all been very traumatic for you. I commend you for still being this strong.”
