I have a disability (Cerebral Palsy). I’m a novelist. And I’m also a nude model.

My novel’s not erotic in any way; it’s about a dysfunctional family in small-town America. It was selling pretty well until my main stockist got wind of the fact that I’m a nude model. There was a backlash and they informed me that they no longer felt it was appropriate for them to endorse my book.

I was so mad! I told them, “You know, people are wonderfully complex. They have different sides to them. I’m a novelist with years of training, but I’m also a very sexual person and I have absolutely no intention of downplaying that for anyone. What’s more, disabled sexuality is severely under-represented. If you can’t see all this as something to be celebrated, then you can fuck off!”
