First Sight At Love [MF]

Lots of love-at-first-sight stories begin things like “I knew in that first moment she was the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with”…

Truth is, first time I saw Gina, I thought she was someone else.

It was on Facebook. Like every great romance.

Kidding aside she did have a look in her digital portrait that captured something romantic. She had pale, milky skin. Large eyes that were dark and deep. Long black hair. She was beautiful in a way that was old Hollywood. She also had tattoos and had every jacket a cool fictional character might own from greaser leather to a mod dick tracy- tan not yellow. She was short. She wasn’t thin. She was absolutely captivating.

She was not “Minnie” from Brian’s BBQ six years earlier. That person lived in Canada now and was just the catalyst to begin a beautiful accident.

Gina explained via messenger she was not Minnie. And the conversation turned friendly.

And things carried on like this for a week.

Two people, next to no mutual friends, lived a few town apart me-31 her-26. Accidentally discovered we had a tremendous amount in common.

I didn’t flirt outright. I was in a weird headspace at the time regarding relationship stuff. Also she had a status of Engaged, but to Walter Mathou who had a big nose was a talented actor and was dead, so that seemed like a joking no trespass sign. Additionally, I don’t like the digital pick up scene.

She expressed interest in a project I was writing. It was a audio play for some friends to do as a podcast. After reading it, she coined the term Ear-Play. And kiddingly suggested the title “Home State of Decay”. That actually stuck.

She had spent a lot of time in a fictional New Jersey that only I had spent time in as the writer. After nearly a month I realized we texted more about everything and anything.

She was walking dogs that summer for an app gig. She didn’t know where to walk this new client in my old home town. I suggested a park I grew up in. She said she couldn’t find it I sent a GPS pin. She said she didn’t have GPS. She then sent a text to prove it with a screencap circling the GPS that read: come show me?

Gina and I officially met at the park, with Brutus, the dog that looked bigbig enough to be her horse. I first saw her sleeve of colorful, puzzling beautiful tattoos.

Brutus went home.

“What do you want to do?”

“The park is cool. But night picnics are better.”

We brought a blanket and Gina unapologetically swiped beers from Brutus’ owner.

At the park she asked me to tell her a story.

I said, “I have bad luck with improv.”

She kissed me on the cheek and said, “for luck!” Calling back our mutual appreciation of Princess Lea.

So I improvised. I didn’t tell the story. I kissed her on the lips. For a second it was nerve city. But her lips, full and wet pushed back. And our bodies began to push. It was a fast boil.

My hand held her small cheek as hers went for my neck, where her lips followed.

She felt my solid enthusiasm between.my legs and I steadily worked my down her stomach.

“Do you want me to…”
“Fuck.”

Frustration. Her hot breath in my ear. She had stopped.

“You know I’m engaged, right?”
“I thought that was a joke?”
“This is wrong.”
“I’m sorry.”
“No, I mean, he hasn’t touched me in years. We aren’t even married yet. Whats wrong is I want you to look me in the eyes as I fuck you and you fuck me back. Don’t speak. I’ll respect your desicion. But if you want me. Want ME the most. Go deep. Or go home.”

I will never fuck a slumming Angel.

But I had the closest thing.

Bathed in moonlight, on fresh grass, fireflies in the lake. She took a piece of me and gave me something when we came in such a mutually strong harmony. The same 5 seconds were unparalleled, in sex or life.

She blocked me.

But not before leaving a note.

“Trust me, this is safest. It was a unique joy to have met you.Thank you for you.”

I was crushed, happy, relieved.

Ultimately haunted. It was not love at first sight.

It was first sight at love.
