The cove was quiet and secluded, edged by a golden sand beach sandwiched between the emerald green plain of wild grass and the sapphire blue water of the lake. The midsummer sun hung low in the sky, and as it began to set it turned the sky to ruby red, and the lake to a great sheet of beaten copper.
“This is such a great place!” Lily said as she collapsed on the grass, next to the small tent she and Ella had spent the better part of the afternoon pitching. Ella had made her way down to the shore, and stood looking out over the lake.
“No argument from me.” she opined, and skipped a small smooth pebble she found out across the water. She got five skips out of it, before it floundered and sank.
Lily sat up and started unlacing her hiking boots. “Right? Nobody even knows about this place.”
“So how did you find it?” her twin sister asked as she came back up from the shore, and sat down to do her own boots as well.
