I’ve been a handyman for many years and one of my clients is the local catholic primary school.
Recently I was installing some new play equipment in the kindy section of the playground while the kids were on holidays. As it was near the end of the holidays, the teachers were starting come in to prep for the new year. Usually a handful at a time.
It was a particularly hot day, and I had my portable shade up and my shirt off as soon as I arrived that morning. I started early in the hope of beating the heat, but it was about 30c at 7am, so I also set up my battery operated misting fan and set to work.
I’d gotten a fair amount done by 8.30, and sat down for a coffee and a cigarette. I found a nice shady spot and took out my phone to check for messages and realised I had a missed call from the school principal because my sound was off. She is a lovely lady who pleaded with me to become their maintenance man, which I finally agreed to.
