“Mom chill, I’m 20, not some kid who’s going to throw a fit because I didn’t get my Barbie dream castle,” I met Daddy’s eyes across the room and smirked.
“I pay for her college,” he added gruffly.
“I just think you should have gotten her something for her birthday,” mom huffed.
I knew that I’d get my present later so I just laughed. “Come on mom, this has been a great birthday.”
She still seemed pissed but she forced a smile. “Cake?” She asked brightly.
I went into the kitchen with her and she sliced into the cake. She had just slid a piece onto a plate when her phone buzzed. “Oh christ, what now?”
She answered, a finger in her ear as she left the kitchen. Daddy was standing in the doorway as she brushed past. I swiped my finger through the frosting and met his eye, slowly putting my finger in my mouth and sucking the frosting off. He smiled, looked over his shoulder and then looked back. “You know I have something for you, right?”
