Some things never change

It had been about a decade since we had seen each other. Having recently moved back to my hometown from out of state to raise my new family, I never expected to speak with her again. Selena and I had dated in college and life got in the way. She was Latina with all the typical features. She had darker skin, dark hair, dark eyes and being first generation American, always was unique as she was raised culturally very different to anyone I knew. I suppose that’s what drew me to her in the first place. I suppose that’s what drew me in again this time.

It was a nice evening out. Seemingly another work night in between holidays where I took the opportunity to grab some food and drink with some out of town era visiting during their break from work. As anyone I knew began to shuffle out I finished my drink and grabbed my coat and keys to make my exit. I literally bumped into her weaving my way through the flow of smokers coming and going by way of the door. She had changed her hair drastically and I didn’t even realize it was her as she was in my face.
