A New Beginning [M,F]

Valerie, aged 27 and 4 months, sat on her sofa for the third night in a row staring at a bright screen and swiping left and right on various faces that appeared. As a woman who just completed her final year as a law student at NYU, she was more than ready to let loose and have a bit of fun. This feeling was, of course, amplified by her best friend telling her that she wasn’t getting any younger and if she stuffed herself away in the library for the rest of her life studying, she’d end up like one of those spinsters in the books she so enjoyed to read. As it were, Valerie was content with the life she’d built and was looking forward to beginning her career as a public defender in the Fall when she’d start with a small law firm in upstate New York, but her friend had a point– she wasn’t getting younger and she did, eventually, maybe, want to settle down one day, so here she sat, and here she swiped, swimming through the seemingly endless sea of faces, one after another.
