I couldn’t wait any more. The way she looked, standing there in the half-light, the fading light from the sunset through the kitchen window catching on the gold in her hair… I felt something, a longing that I hadn’t felt in a long time. A deep ache that went down to the bones. I reached out to her and grabbed her by the waist. Without resistance she moved to me, pressing herself against my body, going up on her toes to wrap her arms around my neck and kiss me.
There was a shock of wonder, and a soft flutter as her tongue found mine. There was a low, soft moan from one of us. Her. Me. I didn’t know. I didn’t care.
God, please don’t let me lose this, I remember thinking. This is what I wanted. Let this last.
Without thinking, I picked her up and set her down on the counter. We broke off the kiss, and I stood there looking into her eyes. Blue, like summer surf. She smiled. “Where is this going?” She asked. There was something dangerous in the question. An invitation.
I grinned back at her. That was the only answer she needed.
