Claire stood in front of a plain brown door, in a sleepy residential neighborhood, trying to contain her nerves about what she was doing.
Claire was a college freshman from California. She had signed up to do a semester abroad in Oslo, Norway as a way to travel, see the world, and be adventurous. The art school in Oslo was supposed to be providing her with a place to stay, but due to a mixup, they wouldn’t have accommodation for her until at least a week after she arrived. Claire had spent most of her savings from waitressing on the plane tickets, and didn’t want to risk her financial situation further by booking a hotel for the week, so she had done the next best thing.
