A cool night breeze passes over us as we sit together outside on the patio. A blanket over us, your legs in my lap, a drink in your hand. A small fire burns near us, it’s heat just enough to make this night almost perfect.
I see you glance at the fire, the flames catching in your dark eyes, then you look to sky, your expression tells me you are trying to understand your place in this world.
I set my drink on the table, my hands reach under the blanket and find your legs. You make a joke about my hands being cold, but don’t protest any further. I slowly rub your calves, feeling the tension release out of them. You sigh, look at me and smile, no words need to be exchanged, nights like tonight need only a few. Slowly I work my hands higher, pulling your dress up a so I can reach your knees. I rub behind each knee, then onto your thighs. You sigh, take a drink, and look at me.
