“I’m sorry, you what?” You blink uncomprehendingly as your friend Kendra drops a serious bombshell. You look over at her to see if she’s joking, but her pretty face is dead serious.
“Come on, dude! Everybody else is getting hitched and popping out kids. Who do we know from uni that’s still single?” she challenges you. A stunning, fiery redhead, it’s hard to believe that she hasn’t been able to hold down a relationship.
You cast your mind back, scanning through your old friend group. “Sarah?”
“Got married last summer, already pregnant.”
“Becca?”
“Ran away to live with that French banker.”
“What about Rachel?” you offer. “She’s been single forever.”
Kendra rolls her eyes. “Uh, yeah, but she has three kids from two different dads. Didn’t you know that?”
“I dunno, I never really talk to her these days. But what’s your point?”
“My point?” Kendra pouts, crossing her arms over her ample chest and leaning back into your couch. “My point is that I’m nearly twenty-seven years old and I haven’t managed to get knocked up yet! I feel like a failure as a woman.”
