It was just another Friday night all alone for me, it seemed. I didn’t mind too much, though. I had my favorite video game to play, and a nice cold beer. Sure, I was only nineteen and wasn’t legally allowed to drink, but my mom was cool about it.
She was cool about a lot of things. Maybe a lot of guys would be embarrassed to admit that they were close with their moms, but I wasn’t. My dad bailed before I was even born, when mom was only eighteen, and it had always just been the two of us, but we liked it that way.
Most of my friends were at parties, or with their girlfriends, but I’d never been good at any of that stuff. I felt awkward at the big house parties, and frat parties, or wherever the hell they were. And I didn’t have much luck with girls, either. The last few parties I went to started out okay, I had some drinks with some friends, we were having a good time, but then as the night goes on, everyone pairs off and hooks up.
