He stroked her cheek lightly. His all-consuming eyes never leaving her face.
“You’re beautiful.”
Beautiful? It had been a very long time since she had heard that word from anyone, let alone felt that way. She tried to relax and let that word sink in letting go of the worries of the lines around her eyes or the size of her waistband. It felt good to just enjoy the moment however fleeting.
The room was lit dimly. Still cool although the recently lit fire was beginning to warm her skin. She sipped her drink as she looked at him. He didn’t show any of the nervousness she felt. He had a look, not of calm but of self-assured patience. There was a definite hunger in his eyes, but he appeared to be in no rush.
She shifted closer to him under the excuse of the chill in the room when really she just wanted to be close to him. He knew. She wasn’t that good at hiding her emotions. He received her willingly and pulled her closer. She breathed a big sigh and reflected on how much she enjoyed being in his arms.
He smelled good, like soap and crisp winter air. He broke through her thoughts as his lips began brushing her neck, up her jaw and lightly across to her lips. Mmmmm… he knew how to kiss. She let him gently explore her mouth. She tried to intensify the kiss, but he pulled back.
