Little predator/ prey start

Her heart was racing. She could feel the panic aching in her chest. She was crouched down, leaning against a large tree. The bark was cold and rough against the bare skin of her upper back. Her hair was messy from running and plastered to her face from the misty rain. Long ago, her beautiful light pink dress had become unrecognizable. Dirt and bits of leaves from the forest floor clung to the wet spots marking where she had fallen and made contact with the earth. Outstretched branches had snagged her dress, sometimes tearing through, leaving scrapes on her skin. It was still early dusk, but the forest was already dark. Covered in thick tree tops and looming clouds, it felt like the sun hadn’t reached the forest floor in ages. She tried her best to calm her breathing, nervous that he could hear it. Snap. A stick broke nearby. Unable to stop herself, her head whipped around as she gasped at the noise. Scrambling to get up, she struggled with her wrists bound in rope.
