I wondered what happened to you, after not hearing from you for so very long. Was it something I’d said…or did that kept you away? But, I’m thankful that you’re here, now. Talking with you about things seems trivial and rather like a waste of time for us, both. But, talking is what we’re doing.
You tell me about changing jobs, entering college (and, subsequently dropping out when your professor kept interfering with your studies by insisting he spend many hours every night with you in his bed) and being able to buy a better car. But, all I can think about is the way we’d left things all those years ago.
Finally, I interrupt and ask: “Why did you never call? You’d said that once you got settled, you’d call and we’d figure out when and where we could best best meet to continue our relationship. So, what changed your mind?”
