[F]irst week in Australia

I had just arrived in Australia.

I had recently turned 20 and I had just moved from my native country of Sri Lanka to Australia for my Accounting degree. It was a big step for me as a woman as I had grown up in a very religiously conservative family and the move to Australia was an opportunity for me to branch out a little.

It was my second day on campus and I ran into Scott during one of my classes. He was tall (about 6’3) blonde with a gorgeous smile. I was nervous introducing myself but we chatted a bit after class. I never thought he’d ever be interested in me. I always suffered from insecurities and I thought why would he be interested in short Sri Lankan Girl? Just as I was about to say bye and walk off to my next class, he asked “hey! Really enjoyed meeting you, since you are new here, did you want me to show you around the city tonight?”. I was so happy that I said yes immediately.

The rest of the afternoon, I couldn’t concentrate in my classes. I messaged my friends back in Sri Lanka who had wanted updates on anything interesting that happened to me. They were so jealous.
