“Not so fast” smiled Dee, “This goblin needs to eat Galyad’s ass first!!”
D&D night had taken an unexpected turn ….
It had started innocently enough. “By the time your preparations are complete and supplies are in hand, dusk is falling on the village” intoned Althea in her most Dungeon-masterly tone. “Do you choose to risk the road out of town at night, or do you prefer to find a place to stay?” There was a glint in her eyes, warning of danger should the party select the wrong path.
Jacob glanced at Dee to his left, meeting her eyes. Their weekly Dungeons and Dragons night had seen less attendance of late, partly because the players had grown somewhat weary of their Dungeon Master’s unpredictable curveballs and traps. In fact, Jacob and Dee were the only two regular players to show up that night, and they were enjoying the smaller group dynamic. They’d each had a few drinks while their quest was introduced, navigating their characters (Jacob played a swarthy and heavyset fighter named Hiram, Dee played a youthful and eager paladin by the name of Galyad) through a series of interactions needed to learn of the treasure’s location, the nature of the beast guarding it, and the curse that would need to be lifted to claim the prize. Despite Althea’s penchant for sadism and unpredictability, there was a fun and relaxed vibe to the night’s gaming and they had all found laughter easy to come by.
