It was late at night, and I was looking at my phone ready to go to bed. Then I heard the knock on the door. I slowly got up, and as I made my way to the door I heard the knock again. Couldn’t whatever it was wait until morning?
My annoyance faded when I opened the door and my 19 year old little sister was standing there. “Anna, What are you…” Before I could finish the sentence she warped her arms around me in a tight hug.
“I’m sorry Ross, I had nowhere else to go! Mom kicked me out, and you’re the only person I could think of to stay with!” I returned her hug and rubbed her back. I looked over her shoulder and saw the single bag she was dragging behind her.
“Come in. I know mom’s a drunk, but I’ll call her up tomorrow and get this sorted out.” I pat her shoulder and pull her bag inside, then get her seated on the couch. I go into the kitchen to make us some tea, and she smiled for the first time since getting here when I handed he the cup.
