Bill and Lily – Bill and Lily were neighbors. Bill and I hit it off when we met and we would do things together occasionally. Have a beer, go hiking, that kind of thing. We became pretty close over time, and one time during a hike, Bill mentioned that he had type II diabetes. I said how sorry I was to hear that and he replied,
“It’s ok, the worst part of it is I can’t get it up any more”.
I said “Oh man, that must be tough. What do you do for relief?”
He said “Well Lily has been great about that. She helps me with her hands or sometimes her mouth, I’m pretty lucky.”
We finished our hike and drove home from the trailhead. I continued to think about what Bill had said and wondered why he told me. I was kind of flattered that he would reveal such a thing to me.
A few weeks later, Bill and I were sitting in the High Country Inn having a beer. Bill brought up his diabetes again, saying how he had to watch his intake of alcohol.
