Space Siren — Part I — Intergalactic Spore (An older story, but it checks out!)
Without skipping a beat, Karyn opened the airlock and lowered the exit ramp. She ran out of the cockpit, leaving her sidearm and her communication device on the console in front of her. Not once did she consider the atmosphere of this planetoid or if she might be in any danger.
The soil she stepped onto was a dull purplish-grey colour, with a soft texture, almost like walking on flour or some other soft powder. It gave somewhat under her feet, coming up around the edges of her boots, but her feet did not sink.
The sky was colourless like the night, cloudless and sparkling with stars like the great void itself. Perhaps the air was very thin, or perhaps there was no atmosphere at all?
Karyn was not considering any of these things as she looked on at the landscape in front of her. From the plateau where she stood, she could see hill in one direction, and a valley in the other. The far side of the valley seemed to be covered in what looked like trees to Karyn, but she couldn’t really tell from the distance.
