*This is a slow burn – buckle in and enjoy!*
It was another typical day at the front desk. There was 6-year old’s birthday party today which had been pure chaos for about 3 hours. The place was now almost empty, only 50 minutes until closing time.
I was mindlessly scrolling on my phone when I saw her enter the lobby from the corner of my eye. She had on black leggings and a navy crop top, which closely pinned against her petite frame. I didn’t recognize her; she must not be a regular. She looked up at me and smiled, approaching the front desk looking somewhat lost.
>”Hi! Is this where you rent gear?”
>
>”Yep. What do you need?” I replied.
>
>”Um. I’m not really sure. It’s my first time trying this. Any suggestions?” she said with a giggle.
>
>”Of course, I’ll get you fitted with some climbing shoes and a harness. You can put your stuff down in that cubby area back there while I grab those for you. Then I’ll give you a lesson once you’re suited up.”
>
>”Great, thanks! I’m Cara by the way.” she eagerly smiled back at me as she walked away.
